KidsAmerica SCORES Boston empowers students in Boston communities through an innovative combination of soccer, creative writing & performance, and service-learning. SCORES inspires youth to lead healthy lifestyles, be engaged students, and become agents of change in their communities.

John is responsible for the overall executive management of ASNE, including outreach, collaborations, brand development, strategic planning, fundraising, board development, program oversight and organizational management.  John comes to SCORES from Courageous Sailing, a youth development organization providing sailing, environmental education and leadership programs for at-risk Boston youth where he served as Executive Director. Prior to joining Courageous, John served as Executive Director of The Barton Center for Diabetes Education, a retreat providing education, recreation and support programs for children with diabetes and their families. In addition to his non-profit experience, he practiced law for ten years in both private practice and as in-house counsel.

Caryl is responsible for revenue generation, financial reporting, administration and operational oversight. As Director of Development for the past four years, she managed all fundraising activities of America SCORES New England. Prior to working with SCORES, Caryl served as Director of Development for five years at the Child Care Resource Center and as a financial controller in the corporate arena for more than 20 years prior to that.  Caryl holds a Certificate from the Institute of Nonprofit Management and Leadership Program through Boston University's School of Management, an MS in Child Development and Early Childhood Education from Wheelock College, and a BS in Accounting from Rochester Institute of Technology.

As Education Director, Dwayne is responsible for the recruiting and training of creative writing instructors at all 10 middle schools. He recently created the fall songwriting and recording curriculum (VOICES4YOUth) that was successfully implemented at 10 middle schools.  Dwayne enjoys working directly with the youth in the program and in doing so provides numerous students with the opportunity to enhance the enrichment piece of their SCORES experience. Dwayne comes to SCORES with a rich history in the recording industry as an internationally recognized artist.  He also manages evaluation and the SES program for America SCORES Boston.

Freya joined SCORES as the Middle School Program Assistant before becoming our Elementary Education Coordinator. She worked in education for several years before joining the US Peace Corps and serving as an environmental educator and community organizer in the Philippines.  During her service, Freya established a literacy program in a fishing village.  Her role in SCORES is to ensure the education curriculum is effectively carried out in the 12 elementary schools.  Freya graduated from Hobart and William Smith Colleges with a degree in sociology.  During her college years, Freya worked with professors to develop curriculum for a peace studies program that combines service learning with practical job experience to open doors to students interested in social justice fields.  Freya enjoys creative writing and continues to take courses to improve her technique.

As Elementary Athletic Coordinator, Mia's responsibility is to manage the soccer aspect of the program at America SCORES Boston's 12 elementary schools, update coaching curricula, and complete program evaluation.  Mia Tsui finished her BA in Music at Princeton University, where she also studied Constitutional Law and Brasilian Language and Culture. Her studies included travel to Ecuador and Brasil, and in both places she found that soccer was a way to transcend boundaries and cultural differences. Mia has worked in a variety of coaching and outreach capacities, including coaching gymnastics and leading afterschool music outreach programs. She has various experiences in musical organizations, having led a number of music groups while in college, interned in orchestral administration at the Orquestra Sinfonica de Guayaquil, Ecuador, and worked as an assistant to the composer Derek Bermel.

Similar to the Elementary Athletic Coordinator position, Mark manages the soccer program at America SCORES Boston's 10 middle school programs.  Mark comes to America SCORES with a degree in Resource Economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. In college Mark studied abroad in SydneyAustralia where he took on an internship in Economic Development. After graduating in 2006, he worked for the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation where he assisted the Executive Assistant, the VP of Public Policy and the VP of Small Business Development with community development initiatives. Upon moving back to the east coast, Mark worked for the Boston Ski and Sports Club as a League Coordinator. As an avid soccer player himself, Mark has experienced the sport's positive effects first-hand.

Zak will be responsible for developing the new Alumni Leadership Academy (ALA) for former America SCORES Boston participants. With the support of the Civic Engagement Program (CEP) Scholars at Northeastern, Zak will implement a program which will support students involved in the ALA throughout the year. He will help the Alumni by assisting them in meeting graduation requirements for high school and preparing them for college. Zak graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 2010 where he majored in History and minored in Sociology. Last year, Zak worked as an AmeriCorps National member for a non-profit called Peace First, which provides conflict resolution and peer mediation skills to elementary and middle school students in Boston.

EVENTS & DEVELOPMENT

Alex assists in the planning and development of all fundraising events, with his main focus on executing SCORES' major fundraising event, the SCORES Cup - a corporate soccer tournament held at Gillette Stadium.  Alex's job allows him the flexibility to be a part of several different aspects of the organization ranging from administration duties to fundraising to marketing and PR.  Prior to joining the SCORES team in 2006, Alex was the Hockey Coordinator at Bay State Hockey where he set up and ran youth and adult hockey leagues and programs.  Outside of SCORES, Alex is the Assistant Varsity Boys Soccer Coach at the Beaver Country Day School.  Alex received his B.A. in International Relations from Tufts University.

Rich was hired as America SCORES New England's Development Associate after having served as an AmeriCorps VISTA.  Prior to arriving in Boston, Rich worked as Program Coordinator for the Franciscan Ecology Center at Siena College in Loudonville, NY. During his time at Siena, Rich built the capacity to form the 4-H Earth Clubs, a college student led environmental education-based youth development program.  Educating and training inner-city Albany's middle and high school youth, Siena College students serve as 4-H Earth Club Leaders and engage members in environmental education, community ecosystem restoration projects, and leadership development.  Now at SCORES, Rich's main responsibilities include grant writing and developing new fundraising initiatives.  Rich received his B.A. in English Literature from the University at Albany (SUNY).

As Development Associate, Carl's main responsibilities include grant proposal writing, special event planning, and online marketing efforts.  Before joining America SCORES Boston, he completed a year of service with AmeriCorps NCCC, where he worked with Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, and the Boys & Girls Club-Metro Denver.  Carl received a B.A. in English from Northwestern University with a minor concentration in Business Institutions.
